Admission to the graduate program in Advertising is very selective. Applicants will be expected to have an excellent undergraduate record in advertising or a related field. Previous work experience is desirable. Applicants from other disciplines will be considered provided they can show a keen interest in pursuing a career in advertising, prerequisite courses may be requried on a case by case basis. Application to the Temerlin Advertising Institute is required for consideration.
International applicants will be required to demonstrate English language proficiency through scores on the TOEFL or other equivalent tests. More details are listed below for International applicants

APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINES AND FEES
Applications may be submitted for the Full-Time, Part-Time, or the Strategic Advertising Specialist Certificate programs for the fall or spring terms. Consideration for financial aid awards is only available for applicants who submit GRE or GMAT scores. Part-Time and Certificate applicants are not eligible for awards. To ensure full consideration, applications should be completed online and ALL supporting material should be delivered to the Meadows Graduate Office BEFORE the following deadlines:

TRANSCRIPTS
Request one official transcript from each college or university previously attended, including summer terms. These may be sent directly to the Meadows Graduate Office. If the transcripts are sent to you, do not open the sealed envelopes. Mail them to the Meadows Graduate Office. A supplementary transcript covering work in progress at the time of the application must be furnished upon completion of that work. International transcripts that are not in English must be accompanied by official translations and evaluations.
PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT & RESUMÉ
There will be space in the Online Application to write or paste your Professional Statement and a feature to upload a copy of your resume.
GRE OR GMAT
Applicants to the Temerlin Advertising Institute are encouraged (but are not required) to submit scores from either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test or Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) to maximize the strength of their application. Students applying for Institute financial aid are required to submit scores. Please send scores to:
- GRE: from the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey directly to “Southern Methodist University”: School Code 6660, Department Code 4501 Advertising.
- GMAT: from the Graduate Management Admissions Council to SMU in the Temerlin Advertising Institute.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Three letters of recommendation are required. Letters of recommendation should be requested from professors who know the personal and academic qualifications of the applicant, or supervisors who can attest to the knowledge and work ethic of applicants. When completing an online application applicants will have the opportunity to arrange for letters to be delivered electronically to the reference listed. Applicants will need a valid email address for each reference and upon submission, notification will be emailed to them directly with instructions on submitting a web-recommendation form on behalf of the applicant.
I-20 AND F-1 VISA
All international students admitted to a graduate program are required to provide:
- Photocopy of passport page that shows official spelling of student’s name (submitted at time of application)
- Proof of financial support, usually in the form of a certified letter from a bank (submitted following an offer of admission)
ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS:
TOEFL/IETLS
A TOEFL score of a least 100 (minimum of 22 in each section) on the iBT or a minimum of 7.5 (minimum of 7.0 in each section) on the IETLS is required of all international applicants whose first language is not English. Please send scores to:

*Applicants who have attended all four years and graduated from a U.S. or English-speaking university are exempt from this requirement.
